Guidelines, Policies and Registration

We thank you in advance for your help and cooperation, and look forward to having your child in our program.

All children in our program must be registered and have a registration form on file each year.  All information in our files is confidential, so please be sure to complete the entire form with your home phone numbers and e-mail address.

Registration Form

School Sports and Extra Curricular Activities

If your child is involved in after school sports or other activities, and the times conflict with CCD class time, please call me before the classes begin to arrange for the work to be done at home until the sport is finished. PLEASE DO NOT wait until the sport is finished to register. You will need to pick up a book, so that your child can do the work at home. This will keep your child up to date with his or her lessons. Only one sport or activity for the year please. We are sorry; this policy is not for the Sacramental grades. We cannot have the children in the Sacramental grades (2, 9, & 10) take time off because they would miss too much of the classroom activities. Please remember, in order to enroll in the Confirmation program, students must attend classes every year.

Snow Days

St. Brigid Religious Education Program follows the West Hartford Early Dismissal and School closings. If school is canceled for the day due to a weather emergency, St. Brigid will NOT hold Religious Education classes that day. If the weather turns bad during the day, or if there is a building emergency, cancellations will be announced on the Infinity radio stations and television (channels 3, 8 and 30), and on this site in the closings section. We will follow the same procedure for Saturday classes.

Drop Off and Dismissal Procedure

Please observe the signs posted at the driveways and drive slowly anytime you are in the parking lot.

Saturday Classes:  Because of the numerous school events we are asking everyone dropping off or picking up children on Saturdays to use the back entrance.  We will only use the back door.  This is for Saturday students only.

Wednesday Classes:  Everyone dropping off and picking up children on Wednesdays should use the front entrance. This is for Wednesday students only.

At the end of class, teachers will go with their children to wait for their parents to pick them up. THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR CHILDREN IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY!  Please be on time, as we do not offer babysitting services.

Class Times

Saturday morning Classes for Kindergarten through grade 8 meet from 9:30 to 10:45.  In addition, we are offering classes  for grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. 9th and 10th grade Confirmation classes are Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m..

Service Projects

Again this year, we will be including service projects in our calendar.  Along with our Autumn Food Drive and Christmas and Easter Gift Collection, we will be setting aside selected days to do other service projects.  This will be a great fun way to get the students involved with community service.

Discipline

Classes meet for only one hour per week. To enable everyone to experience the best possible Religious Education during that time, the following procedure for dealing with inappropriate behavior has been established.

  1. When a student misbehaves, the teacher informs him/her that such behavior is not acceptable.
  2. If the student misbehaves again, the teacher will send the child to the CCD office, and the child and the coordinator will discuss his/her behavior and reach a conclusion about appropriate behavior during Religious Education classes. A notice of this incident will be placed in the student's file. The student will then be returned to class.
  3. The third time a student is sent from class, the coordinator will call the parents and inform them of the situation and set up a meeting with them to discuss the student's behavior. Both the event and the parent meeting will also be noted in the student's file. The student will then be returned to class.
  4. The fourth time a student is sent from class, the student will not be allowed in class unless the parent sits in the class each week with the student.

Cell Phones, earphones and hand held games

We follow the West Hartford Public School guidelines on the use of cell phones, and hand held games. We ask that the students turn off cell phones and not bring games and earphones to CCD.

Classroom Snacks and Parties

Because we are using the actual classrooms in St. Brigid School, and because of the many food allergies children have, no food or drink of any kind will be allowed at any time in any classroom. NO EXCEPTIONS. For special occasions, e.g. holidays, birthdays etc. when a celebration with food is appropriate, such events can be held in the cafeteria.

Communication

We continue to explore ways to maintain effective communication between the office and your home. All activities and meetings are listed in the notices the children bring home, in the Church bulletin, and on this site. In order to help you plan for classes, monthly calendars will be sent home. Please make a habit of checking for notices, picking up a bulletin each week from Church and checking the CCD Web Site often.

If you should have any questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to call me. You are always welcome to visit or volunteer in your child’s classroom.
